Microsoft FrontPage - How to Download Your Files from the Server to your Hard Drive.

Note: If you are planning on using Microsoft’s FrontPage as the web-development tool for your site, you will first need to enable FrontPage Extensions.

FrontPage has a built-in "Publish" utility that makes it easy to upload your files to the server and download them to your computer. Here's how to download your site from the server to your hard drive using FrontPage 2000. (For other versions, the procedure should be similar; consult FrontPage's help section for specifics.)

1. Open FrontPage.

2. Open your web site on the server. To do that:

  1. Go to the File menu and select "Open Web..."
  2. In the box next to folder, type http://your_domain.com (use your real domain name here) and hit Open.
  3. Type in your username and password and click OK until your site is open.

3. Once your web is open it can be "published" to your hard drive. Here's how:

  1. From the File menu, click "Publish Web."
  2. Click Options to expand the list of options. To download changed pages only, select "Publish changed pages only."
  3. Type in or browse to the location where you want the downloaded files to go. That should be the folder on your C:\ drive where you want your web site to be stored. (Let's say your web site will be located in a folder you've set up on your hard drive called C:\website, browse to that location.
  4. When that location shows in the box, click the Publish button and FrontPage will publish your web site to your computer.
